People may be unsure about or confused by the title ‘Soul Midwife’, and I can understand why, I usually describe myself as an End of Life Companion/Practitioner, Soul Midwife, a Companion to the Dying. We are literally ‘midwifing the dying person’, in the same way that a birth Midwife or Doula assists to bring a baby into the world, we help the dying person to make their transition and death as gentle as possible. To create and hold a sacred and healing space for the dying person (whether in a hospital, a hospice or at home). To respect and honour a dying person’s religious/spiritual or atheist/agnostic beliefs and practices. To work as non-denominational, multi-faith practitioners who honour the dying person’s beliefs about life, death or the afterlife. To listen, provide gentle therapeutic techniques, and ensure compassionate care at all times. To ‘serve’ our friend; not aim to ‘fix’ or ‘rescue’. To give healing, using sound, touch, colour, scented oils or other gentle techniques to alleviate pain and anxiety. To keep a loving vigil. To work holistically with the spirit and soul of our friends at all levels and stages of transition. To support families and their loved ones, giving loving care with a human touch. Aid relaxation, improve mood, release tension, reduce stress, improve circulation, enhance sleep & improve wellbeing. What is Reflexology? Reflexology is a complementary therapy that is based on the theory that different points and areas on the feet, lower leg, hands, face and ears correspond with different areas of the body. Reflexology is an ancient therapy which has been practiced for over 5000 years & allows us to cope better with the stresses that life can bring. By applying pressure to specific points on the feet (and sometimes the hands), a professionally trained Reflexologist can detect subtle imbalances, release blockages and restore the flow of energy within the body. The theory is that specific points in the feet and hands (called reflexes) are mirrored in the body and gentle and therapeutic stimulation of these points improves circulation, balances and relaxes the body, evoking a profound sense of relaxation and well-being, reducing stress and tension, two of the major causes of illness today. Simply put, it activates the body’s natural self-healing ability and may be regarded as a positive step towards a healthier lifestyle. Since reflexology is completely non-invasive it is suitable for everyone including children, pregnant women and the elderly. I work intuitively using all my senses when I heal with Reflexology and incorporate mind, body and soul. What Reflexology help with? Reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. However, reflexology has been shown to be helpful in the treatment of: Anxiety and stress related conditions. Digestive disorders including IBS and constipation. Headaches and migraine. Hormonal problems including PMT, menopause symptoms and infertility problems. Help ease allergies, asthma and sinusitis. Help ease sleep disorders. Increases energy levels, improve circulation and facilitate the elimination of toxins from the body. Strengthens the immune system to fight off illness. Can help prepare for pregnancy and childbirth. REFLEXOLOGY LYMPH DRAINAGE (RLD) What is Reflexology Lymph Drainage? Reflexology Lymph Drainage is an evidence based, award winning non-invasive therapy which supports lymphoedema sufferers. RLD stimulates the function of the lymphatic system and drains excess lymph from damaged tissue, improving overall well-being in many cases. This therapy has been researched and developed by Sally Kay, a reflexologist in the UK. For further information into the research and Sally Kay's work check out: http://www.reflexologylymphdrainage.co.uk Where might Lymphoedema occur? Lymphoedema may occur: • In the arm after breast cancer treatment if the nodes are removed • In the leg if cancer or its treatment affects the lymph nodes in the groin area or the pelvis. This is most common in prostate cancer, cancer of the womb, cervix or ovary. “Every year, almost 3,400 women and approximately 30 men are diagnosed with breast cancer” (Irish Cancer Society) Due to advances in medical science the number of people surviving Breast Cancer beyond 20 years has risen considerably. • Approximately 20% of the survivors will suffer from Lymphoedema. • It is common for underarm lymph nodes to be removed during breast surgery. • The lymph fluid can no longer be drained from the arm and this can result in tissue swelling and the arm can swell considerably. The swelling may fluctuate through the day and if untreated will usually increase in severity. It can cause aching, a heavy feeling, discomfort, difficulty walking, tight skin, difficulty in movement. • Due to an altered body image after breast cancer many people have very significant psychological and physical side effects ranging from anxiety, stress, loss of confidence and discomfort wearing certain clothing and jewellery. What to expect during RLD treatments? RLD sessions help aid the symptoms associated with lymphoedema. At the initial session, you will complete a health and lifestyle consultation and at the beginning and end of each RLD session, it is possible to take volume measurements of the affected limbs (Arm or Leg) in order to determine volume change. This can help to quantify any changes although is not obligatory. Treatments take place on the feet and clients do NOT need to remove any clothing. Images showing before & after upper arm & lower leg Reflex Lymphatic Drainage treatment. What can Reflex Lymphatic Drainage help with? RLD may also be useful in the following conditions: ENDOCRINE Hashimoto' s Disease Type 1 Diabetes Addison's Disease Graves' Disease SKIN Alopecia Psoriasis Asthma Eczema DIGESTIVE IBS Colitis Crohn's Coeliac OTHER Allergies - Hayfever Rheumatoid Arthritis Fibromyalgia CFS/ME Migraine Asthma Multiple Sclerosis Lupus MATERNITY REFLEXOLOGY / ANTE NATAL REFLEXOLOGY Clients attending Fern Therapies for the duration of their pregnancy will receive every 5th treatment FREE! Testimonials Book Your No Obligation Clarity Call Stressed? Trouble sleeping? Digestive issues? Menopausal? Aches & pains? Try Aromatherapy! WHAT IS AROMATHERAPY? Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of concentrated plant essences (essential oils) to restore and maintain good health. Essential oils are highly fragrant fluids obtained from plant material (seeds, fruit, leaves, woods and flowers depending on the plant). Essential oils consist of tiny molecules that are readily absorbed by the skin or through inhalation thereby entering the bloodstream and carried around the body to deliver their beneficial powers inducing a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing. HOLISTIC APPROACH It is essential that we treat the whole person and not just the symptoms . Furthermore, the use of essential oils as a holistic treatment is very effective. Aromatherapy works on the pharmacological, the physiological and psychological aspects of the person being treated. The essential oils can have a direct impact on all three elements via different modes of entry into the body. Significantly, it is important that we treat the whole person e.g. your body, mind, and spirit. My extensive knowledge and education regarding essential oils enables me to choose oils to target your needs eg. STRESS | ANXIETY | INSOMNIA | DIGESTIVE ISSUES | MENOPAUSE | ACHES & PAINS etc. WHAT TO EXPECT? At your first treatment I will take a full consultation which allows me to learn about your wellbeing and current health, this enables me to structure each treatment accordingly and helps me to choose a bespoke blend just for you. At each appointment I will take the time to listen to your needs and how you would like to feel . This allows me to choose a bespoke blend on that day and tailor my treatment for you! Basically, focusing on your personal needs. In other words, ways to improve your wellbeing. My focus is on treating the whole person (Holistic) in a relaxing peaceful atmosphere . Reiki Healing Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Well-being Promote relaxation, reduce stress, & enhance overall well-being. Testimonials Book Your Clarity Call What is Reiki? Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and enhances overall well-being. Reiki originated in Japan in the early 20th century. The term “Reiki” comes from the Japanese words "Rei" (universal) and "Ki" (life energy). Reiki practitioners use gentle hand movements to guide this life force energy throughout the body, helping to balance and harmonise the mind, body, and spirit. I have been trained to Reiki Master level in the Tera Mai and Usui traditions of Reiki. Benefits of Reiki Treatments Physical Benefits: • Reduces pain and inflammation • Enhances the body’s natural healing processes • Improves sleep quality Emotional and Mental Benefits: • Alleviates stress and anxiety • Promotes emotional clarity and calmness • Supports mental focus and concentration Spiritual Benefits: • Encourages spiritual growth and self-awareness • Deepens meditation practices • Enhances connection with the universal life force As a Tera Mai Reiki Master I have been trained in Cord Cutting/Cutting Ties In Reiki, "cutting ties" (also referred to as "cord cutting" or "energetic cord cutting") is a practice aimed at severing unhealthy or unwanted energetic connections between individuals. These connections, or "cords," are thought to be established through interactions and relationships, and they can sometimes lead to negative influences or drain one's energy. Cutting these ties is believed to help individuals release emotional attachments, regain personal power, and restore energetic balance. Understanding Energetic Cords Energetic cords are invisible attachments that form between people, especially in close relationships. These cords can be positive, providing support and connection, or negative, leading to emotional turmoil and energy depletion. Why Cut Ties? • Release Negative Influence: Severing ties can help remove the influence of toxic relationships and past traumas. • Regain Energy: By cutting cords, individuals can reclaim energy that has been drained by others. • Promote Healing: It aids in emotional and spiritual healing, allowing for personal growth and empowerment. Benefits of Cutting Ties in Reiki • Emotional Freedom: Experience relief from lingering emotional burdens and attachments. • Improved Relationships: Enhance existing relationships by releasing past negativity and fostering healthier connections. • Personal Empowerment: Feel more in control of your energy and well-being. When to Perform Cord Cutting • After ending a relationship (romantic, friendship, or professional) that was unhealthy or draining. • Following a stressful interaction or conflict. • When feeling unusually tired or emotionally overwhelmed without a clear reason. • Regularly, as part of a spiritual or self-care routine, to maintain energetic health. Note Cord Cutting is an additional service to the normal reiki session and an extra 30 minutes should be allocated. What to Expect During a Reiki Session During a Reiki session, you will lie down comfortably on a treatment table fully clothed. The practitioner will gently place their hands on or just above your body in specific positions, allowing the Reiki energy to flow. Sessions typically last 60 minutes, and many clients report feeling deeply relaxed and rejuvenated afterward. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Is Reiki safe? Yes, Reiki is a non-invasive and gentle practice that is safe for people of all ages. Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work? No, Reiki does not require belief to be effective. It works regardless of your belief system. "Reiki is love, love is wholeness, wholeness is balance, balance is well-being, well-being is freedom from dis-ease." - Dr Mikao Usui The Founder of Reiki
